Fitness Photographers - How To Find The Right Photographer for Your Business

Fitness photography describes the process of taking pictures of people in motion, usually while exercising. It’s a popular way to promote exercise and wellness, and there are many types of fitness photographers. I class myself as a fitness photographer, as I take fast-speed photographs of moving fitnesses, and still pose pictures for yoga or Pilates.

Understand the Different Types of Photography.

Photography is divided into still images, video, and animation. Still images are photographs taken with a camera. The video is an animated sequence of static photos. Animation is a series of static photos that move when played back at normal speed. When shooting fitness or any business type of photography, these images can be used to show exercise, sport or dance.

This blog is about understanding the type of content you wish to use for your business marketing and promotion. In addition, it is about finding the appropriate photographer for your company, but first….

You need to decide what you want from a photographer. If you’re looking for a fitness photographer, you should ask them questions about their background and experience.

  1. How long have they been shooting,

  2. What previous clients have they had?

  3. Do you specialize in fitness?

  4. What kind of equipment do you use?

If a client asks me, I would explain that I have a fast lens for close-ups, and I’ll rent a telephoto lens for long-distance fast-speed photography. I have studio equipment for on-location and studio photography. This equipment will be used to take moving sports, pose or still types of photography. The lighting equipment will help light you, and your studio, and capture movement.

Who have I worked with?

Here are a few you may know about - Trilogy Gym, Gravity Yoga UK, Pose Fitness and The Bar. These are all local companies in Northamptonshire, where I am based.

Once you find a photographer, read previous references!

This will help you determine if the photographer has worked with other businesses before. It will also give you an idea of how well they work together. Most photographers have references on a Google profile, Facebook page or Website. I would suggest reading these before approaching

This is the most relevant thing - look at their portfolio.

If you’re looking for photographers near you, check out their portfolios. Make sure you see examples of current and past work.

Once you have seen their images, consider if their style links to what you want and like. Then, ask these key questions to help with your decision:

  1. What’s your style and approach?

  2. Are there any particular subjects they specialize in?

  3. Do you offer packages that suit specific client needs?

Last thing to consider! Talk to them, chat informally, and get to know the photographer as a person, as they will you. I suggest this, as this person will need to understand your likes and dislikes. Plus, laughing and having fun will make photography sessions comfortable and enjoyable.
