How My Business Process Has Changed Since Lockdown

This is a picture of my photography setup with my garage doors open wide

This blog is all about how my own business process has changed due to Covid restrictions

Since lockdown I have these restrictions, keep 2 m away when photographing, wear PPE, wash hands and work outside or in an airy room.

Currently, I work by visiting locations where I am able to attend, along with the rules, but one thing that I have been doing is offering my home as my own studio and my garage is a free space to use.

HOW CAN YOU CONVERT A LOCATION INTO A STUDIO?

To convert a room, area or garage into a studio, you will need this equipment

_MG_0612-HDR.jpg

This is a picture looking into my garage, as I always work with the garage door open, this makes the garage space seem larger.

The equipment I use for either a lifestyle, food or fitness photograph

1. Teather cable

2. Food props

3. Wooden & plastic backgrounds

4. Background stand

5. Table

6. Natural, flash & studio lighting

  • Backdrop stand

  • Sandbags

  • Backdrop fabric (muslin fabrics that are either plain or printed)

  • Studio lights and light stands

  • Softbox or umbrella

  • Extension cords

  • Tripod

  • Workshop desk

  • Bonce V-flats (optional)

  • Form, card or reflectors to bounce light.

  • Clamps

Once you have a selection of the equipment, in the list above, you can begin to build on your studio resources that relate to your photographic genre.

For my studio, I use my studio for either food dishes, food products, lifestyle or sporting equipment.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Here are some visuals from my latest garage studio shoot with Willian Ice Cream. For this shoot, I changed the photographic setup twice to take these pictures.

  1. The first shoot was a simple flat lay photograph of each ice cream pot from the top, see below

This photograph shows my camera facing down towards the ice-cream pot, with a blue background & a white reflector, so that I can bonze the light back towards the pot and reduce the shadow from the ice cream left-hand side of the pot.

2. The 2nd photographic setup was more styled, with the use of props, a marble background and pink material which has been hung from the background stand.

This picture shows the setup to capture different ice cream scooped flavours on the top of a slice of pecan pie. The props were taken away and amended per flavour of ice cream and I have photographed the food products from the front.
